Celebrating Champions: Ashleigh Woolaway from Livewell Southwest

Ashleigh, a Wellbeing Champion from Livewell Southwest, completed her Wellbeing Champion Training three months ago. She recently shared feedback on how the training went, how it has helped build her skills and confidence in providing support within her team, and the activities she has undertaken to boost wellbeing in her workplace.

Before doing Champion training, I was hoping to get a better understanding as to what is entailed within the Wellbeing Champion role, some resources to help with different aspects of wellbeing and being able to signpost to services depending on the individual’s needs, to given information and training on how to hold a good conversation with an individual around their wellbeing and how to deal with different conversation scenarios.

After my training I feel a lot more confident in being able to hold a good conversation with someone about their wellbeing and know how and when to signpost to other services and having the knowledge of other services that are around that can help with different aspects of wellbeing.

The impact of the training has allowed me to be more understanding and patient with others around me. It has also allowed me to think more openly and consider people’s emotions and behaviours more. I feel more confident in my ability to hold a good wellbeing conversation and have the resources available to signpost people if needed.

Now that I have become a Wellbeing Champion, I have been able to help others in the team who have been having a bad day just to reflect on the day, what could be done to improve things, what is going wrong etc. I have also arranged a wellbeing walk for the team which was undertaken outside of our working days, and I had lots of good feedback from the team around this and that it helped everyone to bond better as a team and take some time out of their busy schedules to get in some exercise, fresh air and have good open chats with each other. I have also set up a wellbeing wall in our office where I have been printing out lots of wellbeing resources which could be useful to the team but also could be useful to the patients we visit within our service.

We’d like to congratulate Ashleigh for completing her Wellbeing Champion Training and for getting started on the wellbeing message within her role to provide support for her team and patients that visits the service!
