Walking Lunches with the UoP Science and Engineering Team!

null

Not only is May known for its #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek, it is also the month to get out and walk!

National Walking Month, is a month long campaign to celebrate the health and happiness benefits of walking/wheeling more! Walking is one of the easiest things to do, so it is a no-brainer for people to get their steps in.

As well as being free and easy to do, walking is also an excellent activity to do whilst at work as it gives us time away from the computer and our workloads, it keeps our bodies moving and helps with our energy levels for the afternoon! And the Wellbeing Champions at the University of Plymouth Faculty of Science and Engineering Wellbeing Team have done just that! We caught up with Emily Bradley to learn more about what they have been doing for May and Walking. Here is what she has to say about their lunch time walks with her team…

To mark National Walking Month, the University of Plymouth Faculty of Science and Engineering Wellbeing Team organised lunchtime walking groups in May. We walked down to the Hoe and Smeaton’s Tower then across to the Barbican before heading back to the University campus. We received really positive feedback from all the staff who joined us. They commented that the pace, conversation and fresh air had put me in a great frame of mind for this afternoon. We are encouraging our staff to continue walking by joining our UoP Science and Engineering team for The Big Plymouth Travel Challenge in June!

It’s a joy to see you all out and about in our lovely city, taking in the coastal views and such pleasant weather!

Wellbeing at Work would like to give a special thanks to Wellbeing Champions Donella Bone and Emily Bradley for sharing this news with us. In addition, we would like to thank their fantastic team; Lorraine Knight, Stephanie Redmond, Chris Scanlon, Stella Yates and Rachel Mortimore.
